This show deals with the appropriations of traditional Islamic architecture. For this show I will install the works Skeletal Mosque and Inverted Kaaba. the Skeletal Mosque consists of a fragmented Muqarnas dome that is either under construction or destruction. Muqarnas are the only original invention of Islamic architecture- a 3D tiling system in which each block functions as a key-stone.

The Inverted Kaaba is the absence of a black cube. The black cube in a gallery is both the Malevich's Black Square as well as a representation of the Kaaba- the empty black cube towards which billions of Muslims pray towards. It is the duality of absolute negativity and embodiment at once. This is the ambivalent edge between form and identity that I am interested in.
